Due to our success and rapid growth, our previous accountant lacked the necessary knowledge and capacity to keep everything up to date. It was high time to switch to a professional accounting firm. We ended up at MRW Accountants in Wolvega. (They have several offices in Friesland, owned by the same owners/colleagues.) As a busy entrepreneur, you often lack the time and in-house expertise to handle your administration and ensure strict audits. You engage with an accounting firm, hoping they'll keep everything under control and that everything will be processed and arranged correctly. You ALSO assume they'll immediately sound the alarm when something is wrong/missing/incorrectly processed, etc. At MRW, they think completely differently… The story: I explained that I love being an entrepreneur, but that I don't have the right knowledge or time for anything related to bookkeeping and administration, and that's why I want the most comprehensive package possible. A few years have passed… you think everything is going well, after all, no news is good news? Nothing could be further from the truth. After a careless mistake, we received a letter from the Tax and Customs Administration stating that they had discovered errors and wanted to schedule an appointment to investigate what went wrong. As a busy entrepreneur, that naturally shocked you, because how could something like that go wrong at an accounting firm they've spent years studying for and have multiple inspections under their belt? You guessed it: after being an MRW client for years, they simply sent an email announcing their intention to terminate our relationship. I thought, what are we going to get? They're just going to leave you hanging and to fend for yourself... "You're just going to have to sort it out yourself with the tax authorities." Nah... then you really feel ripped off... Believe me... That really hits hard... you thought that after years of being a client and always having good contact, you wouldn't be treated like a number... and that you'd built a real bond with them. It's being there for each other in good times and bad... that's something they don't know at MRW Accountants! Fortunately, there are also good firms that will welcome you with open arms in bad times. Our new accountant has since straightened everything out, and we're glad we're no longer with MRW. Because you wouldn't wish a company like that a cent... Let alone thousands of euros a year. If you're looking for a reliable accounting firm, from my experience, I would advise you to look elsewhere. You wouldn't wish this on anyone else!
