Tienus Evenhuis provided excellent guidance as our purchasing agent. We're not originally from this (beautiful) region, which has some unique characteristics regarding the housing market. There are many self-build properties of widely varying quality. Real estate agents/homeowners don't always share their cards. When we were interested in a house in Aalden, we encountered a similar situation. We decided to engage Tienus and haven't regretted it. Throughout a complex purchase process, Tienus remained calm and thoughtful. Thanks to him, we agreed on a lower purchase price than we could have negotiated ourselves. Tienus provided pleasant and professional support, including throughout the post-purchase process.

Our experience with Tienus Evenhuis from Real Estate Agency Emmen was very disappointing. During the sales process, certain things were concealed (for example, a garbage bag with dry yellow sand on it was found in the crawl space, making it appear dry, which wasn't the case), which gave us little confidence in the honesty with the buyers. My father accompanied me to the viewing of the house and was a carpenter. He immediately included this information in the purchase agreement to protect himself and the sellers if any defects were to come to light. The roof of the house was listed on Funda as tiled, and when the real estate agent inquired about it, he didn't get an answer. This is likely because the roof was slated around 1990 and could possibly contain asbestos. Furthermore, communication was poor: we had to ask him ourselves whether a final inspection would take place. The sellers (80+) were completely in the dark and were very poorly informed about this by the real estate agent. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Makelaardij Emmen. I think this agent undermines the NVM (Dutch Association of Real Estate Agents) reputation. We have a fair amount of experience with agents, but have never encountered this before. Unfortunately, I can't post this review on Funda, as the agent has to send you an invitation. So, you should take the Funda rating with a grain of salt.

After so many years of guiding us in our search for a home in the Hondsrug region (taking all our "impossible" wishes into account), the time has finally come. Tienus, thank you for all your time, patience, advice, and last but not least, our perfect spot to live in Drenthe (also on behalf of the dogs). Appearances can be deceiving. After initially reaching a mutually accepted offer through the "normal" bidding process, the purchase of a house in Meppen was cancelled at the end of January 2019 by the seller, acting through this real estate agent. No reason was given. The cancellation took place on Saturday afternoon at 5:45 PM, approximately 10 days after a verbal agreement had been reached. Appointments had been made with the technical inspector and appraiser for Monday and Tuesday. The final damages amounted to over €1,000. All this with the knowledge of this real estate agent, who remained silent regarding compensation for the inspection/appraisal costs. Legally, there was no recourse. Standards of decency were violated. A stain on the real estate agent's profession. A real estate agent who, to the higher-bidding buyer, claimed to have resolved "difficult issues" with prospective buyers in a very friendly and professional manner. NOT SO. A real estate agent with an ulterior motive. Reviews on Funda are only available to invited guests, which is why this review was posted this way. Therefore, Funda reviews should be taken with a grain of salt.
