Unreliable experience: After submitting an opening offer of 2.5% below the asking price on the house on Friday, the real estate agent told me I would be called back on Monday with a response. On Tuesday afternoon, I was informed that several parties had expressed interest and that a higher offer had been submitted. This was without giving me the opportunity to submit a higher offer later or on Monday (which I was willing to do). I was also told that negotiations would continue with this other party. There was nothing more to discuss, and I was fobbed off under the guise of "the seller has made up their minds."
