We contacted John Colen for a consultation regarding buying a house. After the consultation, we had calculated the details, and he assured us we could submit an offer without a financing contingency. No sooner said than done. In the end, we should never have done this; a miscalculation had been made, so we couldn't borrow the amount we needed. No help was offered, other than that I had to arrange an employer's statement in two days. If my work hadn't cooperated, we would have been in a major bind and faced a hefty fine. Fortunately, my employer cooperated, and I received the statement. Then it turned out they somehow forgot to mention that we wouldn't have all the money until the current apartment was sold and the funds were released. In short, we had to cough up a lot of money very quickly! And don't think they'd even consider that. Mr. Colen's answer was: "I also handle your father and stepmother's finances, and they have the money in their accounts." This is all spelled out in black and white in the email. The truth is, we have absolutely no insight into this (maybe we don't even have a good relationship despite our blood ties?) and it's certainly none of our business. So he just assumes someone with a blood connection will lend someone a large sum of money. It's the money of another of John's clients, and it should be treated confidentially. After all, he signs a contract saying he'll handle your information confidentially. He doesn't acknowledge his mistakes; he only gets angry when you point them out. Of course, after all the mistakes, he made us pay the full (exorbitant) price. I definitely wouldn't go to him for advice; it's incredibly stressful, and if you don't have the right wealthy people around you to fix his mistakes, you're in serious trouble. All in all, definitely not a good experience here; very unprofessional. PS: John's ladies are doing a great job; it's not their fault!
