Absolute disgrace of a so called professional. We had to call family who lived 1 hr away to open door to subcontractors while Mr De Witte lives nearby and had a key. Too busy polishing his cars! Also poor quality work and unsupervised. Had to get our own contractors to finish work properly. A big loss for us. As some said this man is not to be trusted as a contractor and far too busy with himself.

UPDATE: Repairs were completed to fix the leaking shower floor, but they were incredibly poorly done, re-using existing pieces (which the worker had chipped and cracked as they were removed), shoddily filling the cracks with huge amounts of caulk (instead of with something more permanent), and finishing the whole thing very sloppily (with caulk all over the shower glass and no attempt at smoothing/cleaning edges). The worker who fixed it was also apparently very angry about having to do his work correctly, and was unpleasant and even aggressive when I noted how poorly things were being done (again). After less than a year, they're already showing signs of leaking again. The water-damaged ceiling in the living room was repaired by an outside contracted plasterer, who did an excellent job, but he admitted that the walls and ceilings in the bedrooms were "so bad, they'd need to be started over again" to ever be right. **Overall, the recommendation stands. This builder does not care about quality, only speed and cost savings. Don't use Bouwbedrijf de Wit if you can avoid them!** De team van Bouwbedrijf de Wit was vriendelijk en het werk was op tijd klaar, maar het vakmanschap en aandacht voor details heel erg slechts was. Wij vonden dat ons "kleine" project (van €50k) altijd minder belangrijk dan hun grote bouwprojecten was voor Rene. BdW zoekt altijd een snelkoppeling en wij zien na alleen 4 jaren de resultaten van deze kortere/goedkoper wegen met lekkende plafonds en een heel slecht uitziet. The team at Bouwbedrijf de Wit was always friendly and the work was completed on time, but their craftsmanship and attention to detail was terrible. We always felt that our "small" project (only €50k) was less important than their big projects. BdW was always looking for shortcuts rather than "doing things right" and now after 4 years we're seeing the results of these cheaper/easier methods with leaking ceilings and terrible finishes that worse by the day. (I've included some "finished" plasterwork and leaking ceiling photos for reference) There is also a sense (in retrospect) that perhaps we were being taken advantage of because we were buying our first house and going through our first renovation in the Netherlands. As expats, their English was a help in getting things done, but the incredibly poor quality of the work and unwillingness to stand behind the results means that I definitely can not recommend them for building projects.

De Wit Construction Company! Of course, I knew the name, a familiar face in Wassenaar, but I hadn't dealt with them before. We encountered the company because we had to collaborate on a neighbor's permit-free extension of approximately 4.5 meters, never a pleasant situation, especially not for the client on whose property someone else's construction project had to be carried out. So, we weren't his client, but René de Wit made it so much easier for us, and I'm truly grateful for that. What exactly struck me during the two weeks it took to finish this wall? It was a lot. Firstly, his expertise. He knows his trade inside and out, has options, and insight. He responds quickly to problems/requests along the way and comes up with solutions. He monitors the progress of the work daily and makes adjustments where necessary. The quality of the work; even my untrained eye recognized good materials. The employees they employed do their work well, are professional, and work neatly. It's a combination of expertise, quality, and interaction with people and situations that makes a company truly special. That's what Bouwbedrijf De Wit has. Over the past few months, the people from De Wit Construction Company insulated and rearranged our attic: removing walls and adding a loft. We're incredibly happy with how everything went. Clear communication, neat work, and above all, they were always willing to help us when we were unsure about whether we should do something differently. René, Rajiv, and Steve were always helpful. The hired people (electricians and plasterers) also did a great job. They also handled small jobs around the house. We're very satisfied, and the end result is fantastic!
