The hotel looks fancy and all but they have very bad service and very bad rooms. The rooms which are in basements feel suffocating and the beds are very bad. The service is super bad. One day they cleaned my room and left the window open. I couldn’t notice that and they didn’t come to see if that could be a problem. They gave a small fan heater which is not even enough for my hands. They didn’t even check and didn’t change my room either. I couldn’t sleep whole night. I was recommended from Lorentz center but the location is bad since there is no bus which goes to center or the university. It shows that there is one in the google maps but it never comes. Not a good place to stay.

It's a nice hotel, nice rooms and the reception is very friendly. I liked my stay. Not too far from the train station and has a bus stop right in front of the hotel.

I came to the van der Valk just for a business meeting in the cafe. Loved the canal view but the lunch food was a bit average. Not terrible but not great either. Not enough sauce with the salad, fairly small portions, very standard bread. I was expecting better for a 4-star hotel.

This was our first night hotel after landing at Schiphol Airport and cycling to Leiden. We were totally without sleep and had lost six hours from the flight,. So we wanted something comfortable. And that’s what we got. I have to say I’ve stayed at many of these hotels and this is the only one that I’m not raving about the front desk. The girl there was not as friendly as most. And when you’re very excited and on a trip you want somebody that’s greeting you. However, our room was very nice. Dinner was so so but again we were too tired to enjoy it and then there was breakfast! I will talk about that below. This hotel chain should never be missed for because their breakfast is worthy of all the praise!
