DO NOT try this company if you are international and have experience. I have over 4 years of experience driving, with 2 of those years in the Netherlands. I went to this company to get my Dutch driving license. I had to DRIVE all the way to Utrecht because, in Amersfoort, they did not have anyone who speaks English. After no more than a 20-minute driving lesson (45€), the instructor, whose English was terrible, advised me to take 30 hours of lessons! (3.000€) And, of course, you cannot hesitate on the amount of hours. Typically a beginner takes those amount of hours. They told me they would refund the hours I wouldn't drive, but this is a lie; they always find something to work on and fill in your hours. I wasted my time and money going there—please do not waste yours.

Hamed provided excellent, clear explanations during the lessons, and the little extras he provided were also incredibly helpful!

I'm so glad I chose ANWB. I couldn't have wished for a better instructor (Hamed). I was very nervous and insecure, a perfectionist... And yet, I passed on the first try! I never could have imagined this. Thank you so much!!!

There's a lot to say about this school, few of which are positive. After a pleasant first test drive, I enrolled at ANWB Rijopleiding Amersfoort, eager to get started. The trouble started during my first real driving lesson: an overexcited, disinterested instructor guided me through the first steps of driving a car. This overexcitability wasn't so noticeable until the next lesson, where he had to express his frustration early on that I hadn't yet mastered shifting gears—and that's without even mentioning the language barrier he was struggling with (a driving instructor who can't communicate fluently). After a few lessons with this stressed-out driver, the final straw for me was when he simply didn't show up for a scheduled lesson. No phone call, no text, no sign of life—neither from him nor from the school. So I finally decided to request a new instructor. As it turned out, my new instructor would bring exactly the same bad luck: disinterest, a lack of patience, a lack of understanding, and an incredibly painful language barrier. It's great to have your first few lessons and then, after ten minutes, be told: "Well, you don't get it! Hey?! You don't get it?! You don't!" while you're clearly succumbing to nerves; class, everyone appreciates that, of course. Another new instructor later, and now I'd had enough—and I asked the instructor I was taking the test drive with: a quiet man who can chat while driving and actually speaks our native language. Great! I could finally start after about (I could be wrong; it's been a while) nine lessons. I got the basics down and started practicing my special maneuvers with him, until one weekday evening I was approached by an unknown number. "Hello [my name], I'm your new instructor from now on because [test drive instructor] has started working at a different school." This is a hyperbolic summary, but of course, it's enough context to think of the following: what is this absolute nonsense? No prior communication about an abrupt change; I'll just have to hear it from the new instructor (no offense to the one who took over, that will happen). So, I had yet another rescheduling because of my new (and final) instructor. Well, it started well, a nice guy otherwise, but I also had to struggle with a bit of patience (is this a common phenomenon for all driving instructors?). I kept this instructor until I could try my driving test. The day of my driving test. There I was, nervously waiting for the call that my instructor was ready to give me another hour of driving practice. "I'm here!" I was told, so I went to the car to start my final test drive. What followed was beyond my wildest dreams. My instructor was already quick to remind me that I was doing incredibly poorly—if I "keep this up, I won't even have to attempt the test." I won't go into too much detail, because it makes my eyes bleed—and if you've read this far, you're probably ready for a break. Anyway, I logically failed because my oh-so-patient instructor treated me as if I'd slaughtered a family member. There are no other words for it except disgraceful and worthless. The examiner had little else to criticize about my driving, which ultimately proved to be my downfall when I made a right-of-way violation due to stress (oh, where did that stress come from?)—there was nothing else to criticize, so I was simply doing well. So there was no reason to criticize me like that. After walking back to the car with my instructor, he was suddenly sweet again and suggested I try the "think out loud" method—because, of course, it's all my fault I didn't pass. Hopefully, it won't surprise anyone that I don't want anything to do with this institution anymore. Please avoid this school.

About: Driving lessons at the ANWB Recommend to others: No Since I didn't receive an email asking if I really wanted to leave a review (because, let's be honest, that's only for the uncritical), I decided to take matters into my own hands. I started driving lessons with the ANWB on Thursday, July 15, 2021. The first instructor wasn't anything to write home about after he forced me to schedule lessons during school hours because "those schools are making things so difficult for him and they should really consider his needs." So, of course, I switched to a different instructor. This one was better! He was strict, but that's okay. You have to learn properly if you want to pass. I ended up having 61 lessons. I took my theory and practical exams twice. This also included an interim test. Because I had test anxiety, it was difficult for me to resume lessons if I "failed" (or failed). I also had COVID-19 several times (three times), which meant I couldn't take lessons a few times. When I failed the first time on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, I naturally had to reschedule. I'd read on the website that there's a so-called ✨️exam guarantee✨️. This means they'll reimburse you for your resit. Well, you can just stick it where the sun doesn't shine, because you're definitely not entitled to one if you've been sick! Can I do anything about being sick? Nope :) I understand that the driving school might not be able to do anything about the cause, but they can certainly influence it. I had to wait 3 (!!!) months before I could take my re-exam on Thursday, August 3, 2023. What's the deal with that exam guarantee, by the way? ;) I understand that the CBR has long waiting lists. But what I don't understand is that I have to wait 3 months and a friend of mine only a few weeks??? (We failed around the same time, but he was able to take his exam earlier.) And we haven't even mentioned the prices. Do we consider €95.25 a normal price for a single driving lesson these days???? Fortunately, I passed my driving test on Thursday, August 3, around 10:00 AM. My tip? Avoid this driving school and go to another one :]
